Defituna collateral for your first liquidity position

Last updated:

Defituna requires collateral from your wallet to open a liquidity position on Solana. The selected pool determines the relevant tokens, while your deposit settings determine whether an opening swap must adjust their proportions. Optional borrowing adds to the capital you supply and creates a repayment obligation. Before committing funds, establish the deposit amount, review the resulting position and leave enough SOL for transaction costs. The displayed position size includes any borrowing, so it can exceed your own contribution.

Match the wallet balance to the selected pool

Start with the pool's token requirements and the balances in the wallet you intend to connect. A balance in an unrelated token does not establish that the wallet holds suitable collateral. Check that your wallet holds enough eligible assets for the deposit and enough SOL for transaction costs.

The pool selection establishes the pair you are preparing to fund. Review that pair before entering an amount. Choose a deposit amount your wallet can cover. Entering an amount configures the position but does not open it. Wallet funding and SOL for transaction fees are separate prerequisites.

Borrowing adds a constraint to the initial deposit

Borrowing makes the available margin support a larger position, with liquidation becoming a material constraint. Eligibility for liquidation depends on the position's loan-to-value ratio reaching the applicable threshold. The initial deposit alone therefore cannot describe how much room remains before liquidation.

Review the liquidation information for the actual configuration before opening. Changing the borrowed assets or position settings can change its exposure. Treat a displayed liquidation price as a risk boundary, not an exit price you are certain to receive. Liquidation execution can take time, and the protocol may attempt partial liquidation when a full liquidation fails.

Does the deposit have to contain both pool tokens?

The deposit must match the required token proportions when opening swaps are disabled; allowing swaps permits a single-asset deposit to be adjusted toward the required ratio. This distinction concerns how the collateral enters the position.

The opening deposit and the resulting liquidity allocation can therefore contain different token amounts. Review any conversion before approving it. Holding one eligible token does not mean the final position will retain that same composition.

A deposit ratio describes the allocation across the pool's tokens. A borrow ratio describes the assets owed when leverage is enabled. Keep these separate when comparing your wallet contribution with the position you are about to create.

The price range changes the collateral allocation

Your chosen range sets the lower and upper prices for concentrated liquidity. Review the token allocation alongside that range, because the position's composition depends on its relationship to the pool price. A preferred deposit asset alone does not define the resulting exposure. Once the market price moves outside the selected range, the liquidity position stops earning trading fees until it returns within range.

How much of the position comes from your wallet?

Your margin is the contribution from your wallet; the rest of a leveraged position comes from borrowed funds. Position size equals margin plus borrowed funds when all three use the same valuation basis.

This relationship lets you distinguish the amount you supply from the amount deployed. Compare values in the same unit and at the same valuation point. Adding raw quantities of different tokens would not produce a meaningful position value.

Without borrowing, the position has no borrowed contribution. With borrowing, a larger displayed size does not mean your wallet supplied that entire amount.

The sizing relationship does not calculate the complete opening debit. Charges and any required opening deposit need a separate allowance. It also does not predict the value you will recover later, because token prices and position composition can change.

Keep opening charges outside the collateral budget

The funds needed to open include more than the amount you intend to deploy as collateral. The opening flow includes protocol charges and a refundable deposit, while the wallet also needs SOL for transaction fees. These amounts serve different purposes.

Pool-specific charges can apply to collateral or borrowed funds. The refundable opening deposit returns when the position closes; it is not liquidity earnings. Read the amounts for the selected configuration instead of treating one remembered balance as sufficient for every pool. Borrowing can change the opening cost even when your own contribution stays unchanged.

Slippage limits belong in the opening review

Swap slippage controls the permitted deviation for token conversions, while amount slippage applies when adding or removing liquidity. An opening transaction can revert when execution exceeds the relevant tolerance.

A sufficient wallet balance does not resolve that execution constraint. Increasing a tolerance permits a larger deviation; it does not add collateral or correct an unintended token allocation. Review the proposed conversion and liquidity amounts together before accepting the transaction.

A hypothetical collateral check before signing

Consider a hypothetical opening configuration with margin valued at 347 dollars and borrowed funds valued at 173 dollars. These invented amounts illustrate the calculation only. Assume the selected market permits the configuration, the wallet holds eligible collateral and a separate balance covers the quoted opening costs.

The sizing relationship gives 347 + 173 = 520 dollars of position value before separately accounted charges. The wallet contribution remains 347 dollars. Borrowing supplies the remaining 173 dollars and creates the corresponding debt.

Before submitting anything, compare the configuration with its confirmation details. The token allocation, borrowing and range must describe the intended position. Any required opening swap must also fit the selected tolerance. The amounts the application actually quotes remain controlling inputs for that transaction.

Suppose the confirmation instead shows a larger wallet contribution. The 520-dollar calculation no longer describes that configuration. Stop before signing and revise the deposit until the confirmation matches the intended 347-dollar contribution.

If the details agree, approve the opening transaction in your wallet. After it succeeds, check that the position appears in the application's positions list for that wallet. Compare its initial margin and borrowed amounts with the submitted configuration before making another deposit. The hypothetical 520-dollar calculation describes opening size, not a future valuation or a guaranteed withdrawal amount.

Confirm the initial margin in the position record

The position record distinguishes initial margin from current margin and total size. Initial margin identifies the opening contribution, while current values can change after creation. The dashboard also exposes token amounts, position status and price-range information.

Use the initial contribution when reconciling what entered the position. Comparing it only with a later total value mixes your capital with borrowing and subsequent price changes. A successful opening should leave an identifiable position under the wallet that created it.

Closing the position after opening

Before authorizing the opening, you can stop at the configuration review. Once the position exists, recovering funds requires an on-chain action rather than abandoning the setup screen.

The dashboard provides a close operation for an existing position. Borrowed funds accrue interest and must be repaid, so the initial collateral figure is not a promised return amount. Closing costs and execution also affect what reaches the wallet. If you change the amount, range or borrowing before opening, review the resulting collateral requirement again; the previous configuration no longer describes the position you intend to create.

Defituna: what people ask

What should I change if my mobile wallet will not connect for the first deposit?

Open the application through your wallet provider's in-app browser when connecting on mobile. A connection problem does not establish that your collateral amount is insufficient. Resolve the connection before interpreting a missing balance or attempting to configure the deposit.

Does adding more collateral after opening automatically reduce leverage?

Adding funds through Increase Size keeps the position's existing leverage, while Repay Debt uses external funds to reduce borrowing. These operations have different effects. If your purpose is reducing debt rather than expanding the position, distinguish the repayment control from the size-increase control before approving another contribution.

Can a rising pool token price still reduce the value of my collateral?

A rising token price can coincide with falling collateral value in a leveraged liquidity position. The position's asset composition and the tokens owed both matter. As liquidity trading sells the appreciating asset, debt denominated in that asset can rise in value faster than the position's assets, reducing your equity. A directional label alone does not establish how the position will behave across every price.
